Sarasota County Named “100 Best Communities for Young People”

 

For the second time, Sarasota County has been named to the America's Promise Alliance “100 Best Communities for Young People.” The county will receive a $2,500 grant and signage acknowledging the award, which is based on innovative work in addressing the high school dropout crisis and the programs and services offered to Sarasota County youth.

Region Named Happiest in America!

 

The North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton metro area has been named the No. 1 "Happiest City in America" by the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index. The poll reports population growth of 6.4 percent between mid-2010 and July 2014, attributing the cause to employment opportunity and Americans seeking warmer climate. The poll also suggests that strong health indicators--an obesity rate of 22.5 percent in the North Port area was among the lower rates nationwide--and retirement may be among the contributing factors to well-being. As fall class starts for students, some of the best places to visit in Sarasota’s college area

Fall classes start Monday for Ringling College of Art & Design, New College of Florida and University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee, and some students living in Sarasota for the first time may be wondering what there is to do.

All three colleges are located within a few miles of each other on North Tamiami Trail. And though this strip of road may not look like your traditional college town, there are a number of cool coffee shops, bars, restaurants and more to be found there.

New College of Florida is Named ‘Best Buy’ in 2019 Fiske Guidebook

 

New College of Florida is once again ranked as a “Best Buy” college in the 2019 edition of the long-running Fiske Guide to Colleges. Only 20 public colleges in the United States received Fiske’s “Best Buy” designation. In its description of New College, the guide notes “virtually every student admitted to this ‘public Ivy’ is guaranteed an automatic scholarship, and out-of-staters are awarded Presidential Scholarships worth $60,000 over four years.”
